Archives

E-mail corrections or additions to info@armdrag.com.

ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Matmen and Nelson Holds

Beginning the 1941 spring term March 6, the Marshall wrestling squad under able direction of Mr. Schantz, learned and applied various breaks and holds. Five 1940 veterans——Earl Rogers, Eugene Rogers, Ed Lange, Bob Studley and Carl Ester——formed the nucleus of the squad.

The wrestlers were arranged in classes of 95, 105, 112, 118, 126, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175. This range of weights enabled anyone who was interested to wrestle with someone his own weight.

Beginning the third week of March the wrestling class held its inter-class championship for members and enthusiasts. Entries for the various weight classes had to be applied before March 12.

The club meets every Wednesday and Friday, under amateur regulations.

In an exhibition match on Men's Night March 28, in the one hundred sixty-five pound class, Emmett "Brud" Donnelly defeated Bob Studley to take the Marshall championship in that division. (John Quill, John Marshall High, 1941)
