ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Tom Smith of Madison High School turned in an undefeated season last night at West High in capturing the 127-pound class championship in the Interscholastic League's city individual tourney.

Smith decisioned Ralph Scialo of Jefferson, 4-3, in recording his 11th straight victory before a standing room only crowd.

The only pin on the 12-bout card came in the 180-pound class when West's Mike Tartaglia stopped Madison's Frank Ferra at 3:57.

Most interesting match for spectators came in the unlimited division, last on the card. Madison's Bob Abbey turned back East's George Ferratta in overtime, 2-1.

Unknown to faithful onlookers was the friendly match between two buddies, Charles Caleo of Edison and Don Zambito of Franklin, in the 120-pound class.

Zambito was city and sectional 112-pound champion in 1958-59 and carried a 6-0-1 record into this year's individual championships. His shortcoming during this season was a leg hold that he couldn't break when applied by East's Billy Protz, an opponent he would meet in the city championships.

There was only one thing to do. Practice it. Who did he pick to work out against? His buddy Caleo. Charles was in the next class (120 pounds) above Zambito. This worked out fine, except for one thing. Zambito failed to make the weight class at 112 and ran right into Caleo in the finals of the 120-pound class.

You guessed it, Caleo won the decision, 4-3.

Protz stopped West's Charles Marvin, 7-0 in the 112-pound class to turn in an undefeated season. He has one tie.

West's Willie Weaver is in the same boat. He stopped Marshall's Don Chapman, 14-3, in the 165-pound class.

East captured team honors with 62 points. Points are scored on an individual's advance as the tournament progresses. An individual, even though he should eventually lose, still would get points for his victories for his team.

Madison finished second with 58, followed by West 53, Jefferson 34, Monroe 27, Edison 23, Franklin 21, Charlotte 19 and Marshall 18.

Last night's winners will represent the city schools in the Section 5 Class AA finals in Geneva Saturday at 8 p.m. Normally there is a consolation round, but this year it has been dropped. According to Ed Hulek, chairman of the city tourney, last night's losers will also be taken to the sectionals, but this year they will be spectators.

BILL PROTZ
Oriental 127-pounder

Tom Smith of Madison High School will lead 24 Interscholastic League wrestlers into the finals of the city individual championships at 8 o'clock tonight on the West mats.

Smith, working in the 127-pound class, is undefeated this season and defending city and sectional champion. His opponent will be Ralph Scialo of Jefferson who is 8-2 on the season and was the 1957-58 city champion in the 103-pound class. He sat out the 1958-59 season.

Bill Protz leads a foursome of East High matmen who will try and keep their school out front in the team standings. Through the semifinals, East with 32 points has a 13 point lead over West.

Protz, 9-0-1 on the season, will meet West's Charles Marvin, 6-1-3, in the 112-pound division. Marvin, however, is the 1958-59 city and section 95-pound champion.

The winners in tonight's 12 matches will be crowned city champions and will represent the city schools in the Section 5 tournament Saturday in Geneva.
