ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Spencerport's wrestling
machine continued to grind last night as the Rangers captured five individual
championships and annexed the Monroe County League title at Brockport High
School.
Roger Bubel, only
defending champion to repeat, walked off with his third straight crown as
Spencerport amassed 117 points. Rush-Henrietta, despite the upset of defending
sectional titlist Al Solomon, finished
second with 96 points, followed by East Rochester 90, Eastridge 85, Irondequoit
57, Fairport 43, Greece Arcadia 41, Brockport and Brighton each with 33, Webster
and Pittsford each with 27, Penfield 26, Greece Olympia 16, Gates-Chili and
Hilton each with 15, Churchville-Chili 13 and Greece Athena 4.
Spencerport Coach
Walt Teike said, "I'm glad we won it by any
amount total" noting his runnerup position behind East Rochester after Friday's
preliminary and quarterfinal rounds.
Dave Travis started the
Ranger's onslaught in the 101-pound class with a 3-0 decision over Eastridge's
Dave Polsinelli. Mike VanSchoick
revenged his first setback of the year in the 118 bracket with a
come-from-behind victory over East Rochester's sophomore star Brian
O'Lena.
O'Lena, who defeated
VanSchoick last week, went up by two with a takedown in the first period. O'Lena
upped his advantage to 4-0 with a reversal beginning the second period, but
VanSchoick in turn reversed the ER grappler.
R-H's Dan Ranieri
won the right to test Bubel with a 3-2 win over Eastridge's Tom Prince
in the 126-pound class. After a scoreless first period, Bubel recorded a point
for an escape and then took Ranieri down for a 3-0 lead. Ranieri escaped with 20
seconds remaining in the period and again in the third period, but couldn't take
the unbeaten Bubel down and Roger became the third Ranger winner.
Rick Elliott followed in
the 133 division with a 2-1 victory over Rick Lau
of Greece Arcadia. With Lau in control in the second period, Elliott used his
patented "switch" to reverse Lau and the two points. The Ranger's Tom
Gartland, also unbeaten during the season,
defeated Eastridge's Vince Volpe, 7-2, for
the second time this year.
Chuck Grossman, the
Greece Arcadian who placed second the past two years, finally got revenge with a
6-1 drubbing over Solomon.
In the 148 class
Irondequoit's dark horse, Mark Giovatti,
defeated previously undeafeated and top-seeded Doug MacKinnon,
4-3 in the afternoon semifinals. With the score, 0-0, and ER's Pete Duffy
looking to duplicate his brother's feat of last season, Giovatti escaped and
then took down Duffy with a duck under move. Duffy escaped in the finale, but
Giovatti came away a 3-1 winner.
Penfield's Bob
Huizenga, undefeated and untied, registered a 4-0
triumph over Dick O'Lena of ER in the
158-pound bracket.
Irondequoit's
Kurt Blank, also a runnerup a year ago, captured
the 168-pound weight division. He was also awareded the Outstanding Wrestler
Trophy on merit of his 18-4 win over Eastridge's Jack Romano
in the title round.
Nick Pittinaro, a
senior, but in his first year of wrestling, outpointed Eastridge's favored
Gary Siconolfi, 5-3, for the 188-class
championship.
