ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

The ranks of unbeaten wrestlers were thinned last night in
the Monroe County League Tournament finals, but Spencerport fattened up with
its seventh straight county title.
Spencerport's Ray Vincelli and East Rochester's Andy
Brien provided a pair of stunning victories in the packed gym at
Rush-Henrietta Sperry.
Vincelli, a sophomore seeded only fourth in the Western
Division, pinned Greece Olympia's Mark Siverd at the 59-second mark of
their 108-pound bout.
A two-point reversal with about 40 seconds left gave Brien a
3-1 victory over Sperry's Steve Rosa at 180 pounds.
Spencerport, which also had individual champions in Mike
Wilmart (unlimited) and Dave Stulpin (148), best runner-up Greece
Arcadia by 33 points, 104.5 to 108.5.
East Rochester was third at 97, Eastridge was fourth at 86, and Hilton
fifth at 78.
Vincelli had beaten another well-regarded wrestler in
Hilton's Dan Kasper in the semifinals.
In the final, Siverd, who had won 23 straight matches, made a fatal
early mistake.
"He had a single leg (hold) on me but I worked off that and
slapped a cradle on him," said Vincelli.
"That (match) was the big one for us," said Vincelli's
teammate, Stulpin, who beat East Rochester's Bob Steinruck in a battle of
unbeaten contenders.
"After East-West Day (during which Spencerport lost to East
Rochester), we figured it was time to get going," said Stulpin (25-0).
The Rangers other victor, Wilmart, was extended to overtime
by Arcadia's Mike Palumbo and needed a unanimous decision by the three
judges when the bout ended in a 2-2 tie.
Brien fell behind Rosa, 1-0, on an escape in the second
period but tied the score when Rosa was called for stalling near the end of the
period. Then Brien made his crucial
reversal.
I didn't think I was going to get any takedowns, so I knew I
just had to battle for six minutes," said Brien.
"I
hadn't seen him wrestle this season until this tournament. I went to scout
one of his matches but he won a forfeit."
Arcadia emerged with three champions, including the
tournament's outstanding wrestler, Greg Locke at 129.
Locke beat Shane Graham of Spencerport, 15-3, but
said, "None of my matches are one-sided. They're all tough. Just
because you win by a lot of points doesn't mean they're not tough."
Don St. James of Sperry scored a 12-4 victory over
Brighton's Scott Lewis at 101, and Fairport's Dave Halladay beat
Brockport's Gary Freeman at 115.
At 135, Chuck Partridge of Hilton reversed an East-West Day loss
to Joe Murnin of Fairport with a 7-5 victory. "We should meet again in the sectional finals," said Partridge.
Eastridge's two champions were Rorie Legacy at 94 and
Mike Piampiano at 122. Legacy
beat John San Filippo of Spencerport, 8-2, and Piampiano beat Jerry
Sacchitella at 122, 11-4.
