Just back from the 10th Annual Newark Valley Tournament, a 16-team tournament with teams largely from section IV. Along with Canandaigua Academy, this year's tournament featured South Seneca from Section V. Also making an appearance was Blair Academy from New Jersey.
Blair won the team title with 261 points, and Canandaigua was 2nd with 257 points. South Seneca finished 8th. Blair had 8 wrestlers in the finals, while CA had 6.
The Braves had 5 individual champions: Dan Mandera @ 96lbs, Kyle Ingraham @ 119 lbs, Trevor Chinn @ 145lbs, Tom Cuppernell @ 160lbs, and Dan Jacobson @ 215lbs. Sophomore James Hawkins finished 2nd at 135 lbs. CA had 12 of 14 wrestlers place.
South Seneca had two individual place finishers: David McCheyne (135) and Adam Kern (215) each placed second.
Chinn was voted the MOW.
At the JV tournament which ran concurrently with this tournament, the CA JV's had an impressive beginning. Shawn Hawkins @ 103, Ben Jones @ 112, Robbie Mack @ 119, Shane Church @ 125, Wayne Hawkins @ 130, and Chris Wittlinger @ 215 all walked off with individual titles and the team far outdistanced the 2nd place team in points.
