D2 138, consi semis, Mason Gray (Warsaw - V) vs the 2 seed, Ben Bivar, who sent Runfola to the consolation bracket and lost an 8-6 match in semis.

Gray with the slick takedown to a two-on-one tilt, which Bivar rolls through. Gray doesn't catch the nearfall this time as he has several times throughout the tournament. 2-0 lead.

Heading into the second Gray defers choice, Bivar elects to go down. Gray, lining up on the left side, chops and busts Bivar flat with a tight waist, then digs a bar and runs it around the head. Hets a 1-count but Bivar arches and comes off his back. Gray still has the bar locked up and is still trying to run it. Double bars now... To Bivar's back, but Bivar sits up and Gray only gets another 1-count. No score despite lots of action on top. Gray with a boot on top, riding tough, Bivar can't get much going off bottom which is a testament to Gray's riding. Gray crab rides to a tilt but 1 count, is in danger and arches through himself to come back out on top. 8 seconds left as they go out of bounds. Caution Bivar on the restart. Keagan Carmenatty (South Seneca - V) vs Osmond Bouyer (Section VIII)

coming into this one a bit late... 1-1 match in the 3rd, Carmenatty takes injury time. Back at it, short time and in neutral. Collar ties, both men. Time expires and they're headed to SV OT.

Great reverse swim to clear the arm by Carmenatty, straight to a high crotch attempt but Bouyer athletically scoots just enough to avoid it. Wow, explosive movement out of these two 220s. No score.

1st 30sec 2OT, Carmenatty scores the escape with short time. 2nd 30 sec 2OT, Bouyer escapes immediately. 2-2 headed to utb rideout...

Bouyer bouncing, feeling confident. Lead official for the match is at the table conferring with the table help officials, not sure over what but it seems it may be some coach challenge as the coach Clarke (section VIII) is complaining about something... no idea...

After a pretty long break, UTB begins, Bouyer on bottom. Bouyer stands, PD as Carmenatty slides in a boot on top. Stalemate. Second time. Carmenatty boots off the whistle. PD. And agian. 2 seconds, warned for stalling... 2 seconds left... Carmenatty rides him out! Carmenatty to the podium. The Clarke coaches are furious and are still hopping, clearly looking for stalling calls. Frustration on their faces is painfully obvious from across the arena. Tough, tough way to lose in blood round for their wrestler. Props to Carmenatty hanging in and doing what he needed to do to get the W.

   D2 99 - Semi-Final
Carter Schubert (W/M/S - V) vs Devin Coleman (Camden - III)

Action in neutral is pretty evenly matched, half-shots by both in the first period and neither really in danger. An eye-poke knocks Schubert's contact out and we're on official's time to get it back in. Short time on the clock on the restart has them locked at 0-0 with the period expiring.

Coleman, a senior, takes bottom to start the 2nd period. Schubert, an 8th grader, rides tough and controls his opponent well. Coleman stands and cuts his hips away, Schubert cracks down to a single but can't hold on as Coleman pushes back from the sprawl-position and separates for the 1-0 lead. Schubert on a double, Chin Whip attempt by Coleman on the boundary, Schubert comes to the front and keeps his base wide, then switches his hips to the back. In deep on the resulting single... Coleman wiggles out of bounds, no score. Period ends 1-0, Coleman lead.

Schubert on bottom to start the 3rd, gets his hips clear, stands and out early with a lot of time to work in the 3rd. Tied up, 1-1. Blood time, Schubert. Action in neutral, shot Schubert, out of bounds. :54 on the restart. Coleman working double-unders, Schubert backing up hard. Throw attempt by Coleman, Schubert to his hip, hips back down and bases up, blocks the go behind. Still tied up. 1-1 as regulation expires.

OT, Schubert backed up to the edge, shoots in without much set up, shot gets stuffed and stalemate. Restart :27, action, Coleman on the attack, head fakes, collar tie and SV OT expires.

First 30 second 2OT, Coleman takes bottom. Schubert on top, Coleman stands immediately, turns in early, Schubert in on the single, Coleman sprawling back, Schubert captures the elbow... loses it and gives the escape with 6 seconds left. Schubert bottom to start the second 2OT. Coleman with a boot, Schubert catches underneath, sagging his hips. Almost out. Time expires. Controversial. The difference from 2 and not-2 was Schubert's arm being a little tight. Could argue the top man didn't have a shred control and E1 was warranted... Tough call as an official. Good match, stinks to be on the other side of it though.  —ANDREW

Philpots, the 3 seed, with the first period takedown has him up 2-0 and riding tough on Wood. 2-0 end of the fist.

Wood takes bottom to start the 2nd. Cross-wrist and heavy toe pressure forward from Philpots bellies Wood out. Wood quad-pods and attempts to stand, Philpots to a thigh-pry and claw, not a lot of movement. Wood to his feet, working hands, only to be mat returned by Philpots. No quit in Wood as he works back to his feet and gets the escape with 6 seconds left in the period. 2-1

Perlleshi starts fast with a Russian off Schuster's collar tie into a baseball slide-sort of shot. Great takedown.

Schuster sits out, turns, sits and turns, catches Perlleshi with his hips out of position and catches an ankle, climbs to the waist and gets 2 for the reversal. Schuster leg riding, first cross-body with a boot, hard on a whizzer and cross-wrist next. Controlling position with a 7-3 lead. Restart with 50 seconds, Schuster stops the first move, laces an Iowa with the right leg, Perlleshi scoops inside the left left and the position stalemates. Schuster stops the first move again and rides tough carrying a 7-3 lead into the third period.

Perlleshi opts for Neutral (a good choice after just being ridden out badly). Schuster stuffs a shot attempt, Perlleshi climbs to a 50/50 over-under tie and runs Schuster to the edge, shoots at nothing and Schuster stays in good position going out of bounds. Injury time Schuster. Up 7-3, Schuster sets up the sweep single, chases the ankle but can't shelf. Perlleshi hard on the ankle whizzer to a stalemate.    D2 138: Chase Runfola (Letchworth - V) vs Mikey Bruno (Section I)

Runfola, the 7 seed this year, was on a tear early in the state tournament last year before sustaining injury. Mikey Bruno is a multi-time state rep from Section I. This opening round bout will be interesting to see for me.

Runfola starts out with a smooth takedown. Good set up, clean finish, and a 2-0 lead. He gives up the relatively easy escape, 2-1, and gets back in on a shot and finishes to take the 4-1 lead. Out of bounds, :15 on the restart, Caution Runfola. Bruno quad-pods to a stand up (all-fours, heavyweight style), Runfola rides tight and finishes on top.

Bruno defers and Runfola takes bottom. Quick escape for Runfola, 5-1, and Runfola shoots him out of bounds. 1:49 left in the 2nd. Runfola clears a tie to a single. Gets to the ankle, Bruno is bailing out of bounds, Runfola keeps him in... and out of bounds. Restart. Bruno working the edge, Runfola snags a single and has a beauuutiful dump on the boundary to secure the takedown. Textbook finish. 7-1 heading into the third, Bruno opts for neutral.

Runfola to a double, gets the takedown 9-1 lead. Optional start to neutral, 9-2. Shot by Runfola ends in a stalemate. Restart, 1:15... Sweep single for Runfola, chases the ankle and finishes cleanly. 11-2. Bruno hit for stalling makes it 12-2, Runfola leading, short time left in the match. Runfola with the cast-over, looking for backs, but Bruno hips down and time expires. 12-2 final for Runfola.

In other news, Runfola's likely next opponent, 2nd seeded Ben Bivar (section 4) is struggling mightily with Juan Estrada of Section 2. A 5-4 match just became 7-4 and an early escape in the 3rd makes it 8-4 Bivar... but from what bits I'm catching, he doesn't look especially impressive this round. Sweep single for Bivar and a blind-half puts Estrada to his back and cracks the match wide open with Bivar up big and looking for a fall. 13-4 final. It could be a really entertaining match next round with Runfola looking for the upset.  —ANDREW

Schafer, the 7 seed, has had a flurry of a first period. 6-4, Schafer leads. He's just wrestling so wildly. Schafer cradled to start the 2nd and it doesn't look good. Somehow gets off his back, 7-6 Pearce leads. Pearce turns him again for a 2-count, 9-6 now. Schafer on bottom, 44 seconds left in the 2nd. I legitimately can't understate how wild and, I don't want to say sloppy, but sloppy, this match is. Another nearfall and Schafer is down 11-6. Schafer takes injury time to regather composure...
