Five Big 30 senior wrestlers competed in the opening rounds of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association wrestling tournament Friday at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Only one won his first match - Olean High's Zach Bierfeldt (152 pounds), who earned an 8-3 decision over his opponent, Dillon Warner (Schoharie, Sec. 2). Bierfeldt followed that up with a 10-1 major decision over Caleb Beach (South Jefferson, Sec. 3) to advance to today's semifinal match against the No. 2 seed, Kobe Garrehy (Maine-Endwell, Sec. 4). Bierfeldt (38-3) is assured of a Top 6 finish.
