Wrestling family from South Seneca lose all belongings in fire
July 12, 2016

At 5:20am on July 10th, my step-father, Mark Schott, woke up to his alarm for work. He noticed an orange glow outside his window. Unfortunately, it wasn't the early morning glow of the sun rise that he was hoping for. Realizing the danger, he quickly grabbed his youngest son, and fleed his bedroom, grabbing nothing but his phone, and the shorts he had worn the previous day. He then made his way to his eldest son's room, telling him to run upstairs to warn the neighbors, who thankfully answered and left the house with their cat in tow. After awaking Damion, he made his way to his middle son, who then took the youngest outside. Mark also managed to get their own cat out as well. By the time everyone was out, the entire house was ablaze. After the valiant effort of the Trumansburg, Enfield, and Mecklenburg, Interlaken, and Ovid Fire Departments, the fire was extinguished. Unfortately, nothing was saved besides a few waterlogged shoes. Through the aid of the Red Cross, they have a few changes of clothes, and basic toiletries. The loss of their home is compounded by the loss of a close family members on June 17th. Anything offered would be greatly appreciated. I will update tomorrow with everyone's sizes. Any money raised will go towards clothing, food, and furniture for their new apartment.
