Former assistant coach assumes Iroquois wrestling's head job
December 08, 2016

Troy Almeter is no stranger when it comes to Western New York high school wrestling, specifically where Iroquois' program is concerned.

That's why the long-time team assistant coach was a fairly obvious choice to ascend to head coaching status when that opportunity arose following the 2015-16 season. But, given the Chiefs' roster limitations this season, Almeter is tempering his expectations for his first season as a head coach in six years.

"We are going to be extremely tough in the low and middle weights, but with no heavyweights, it's not a stretch to say we are very young and rebuilding this year," Almeter said. "Being as young as we are, coupled with the fact that we don't have the heavyweight wrestlers, I'm hoping we can go at least .500 in our dual meets."
