50th Annual Powerade Wrestling Tournament Preview

The toughest tournament in the keystone state will take place this week at Canon-McMillan High on December 29th & 30th. 2015 champion Wyoming Seminary (PA) is back on their quest to win the tournament once again. However, the Knights will be challenged by the eighth-ranked team in the nation, Bergen Catholic (NJ).

There are five returning Powerade medalists from last season in this weight class. However, the favorite to win the whole enchilada is two-time New York and Fargo Cadet champion Frankie Gissendanner (Penfield, N.Y.). Gissendanner and his team are competing in this tournament for the first time.

Gissendanner's likely opponent in the finals could be 2015 UWW Cadet freestyle champion Jared Verkleeren (Hempfield, PA). Both grapplers are currently ranked top 10 in the country. Expect fireworks to happen if the match does take place.
