Scapelliti retires with an exclamation point
March 02, 2017

After producing four Niagara Frontier League wrestling championships over the last five years, veteran Lockport varsity head coach Joe Scapelliti — the emotional, heart on his sleeve staple of a now dominant Lions mat program — has announced his retirement.

And if you think he's retiring to spend less time with kids, quite the opposite is true — only, it's his own kids.

"I've made the decision to step down as head coach of the Lockport wrestling program at the end of this season. In doing so, I hope to devote more time to my family, specifically my children's athletic pursuits," said Scapelliti, whose son Sydney is an aspiring soccer player and other son, J.J., hopes to wrestle next year.
