Arujau Takes Second; Diakomihalis and Dean Third at UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals

NEWS

At the UWW Junior Nationals, four future Cornell wrestlers made the podium in Freestyle.

Syosset's Vito Arujau took second place at 60 kg, as Minnesota's Mitch McKee (the runner up at the Junior World Team Trials a year ago) scored a four-point move with short time left on the clock in a back and forth match that ended 13-10.

Arujau, a Cadet World silver medalist in 2016, won his first four bouts by technical fall, yielding just one point in those matches.

Meanwhile, Hilton's Yianni Diakomihalis notched third at 66 kg. The two-time Cadet World champion outscored his opponents 55-7 in his five victories (four technical falls), with his lone loss coming on late points in the semis against eventual champ Ryan Deakin. Deakin took third at the Midlands this past season at 149 pounds as a redshirt for Northwestern.
