For one local wrestling team, Saturday's sectional championship was a long time coming.

For another, it was old hat.

Warsaw captured the Section 5 Class BB title at Caledonia-Mumford with 205 points, edging out Bolivar-Richburg (198.5).

It is Warsaw's first sectional wrestling title since 1976, according to Warsaw coach Rob Hirsch.

"It really came down to the entire team wrestling hard," Hirsch said. "The whole team bonded together. They just came together and won it as a team."

Warsaw had three individual champions.

Ian Paddock won the 96-pound title, pinning Kendall's Tanner Bauer in just 54 seconds in the finals.

"He's on a different level right now," Hirsch said. "He's really matured and he's focused.

Paul Paddock won at 145, pinning Bolivar-Richburg's Dustin Pierce in 1:52 in the finals.

"Paul knows what it takes to go to states. He was there last year," Hirsch said. "The kid works hard and it shows on the mat."

At 215, Dan Reger also won by pin for the Tigers, stopping Marion's Matt Mayville in 5:41.

Reger was seeded second, but controlled the match vs. the top-seeded Mayville.

"Reger wrestles with a lot of heart; he's non-stop," Hirsch said.

In Class BBB at Sodus, Holley won with 260.5 points, giving coach John Grillo and his Hawks their seventh sectional title in the last eight years.

"I knew we had a good team from top to bottom, but I knew we needed to peak at the right time," Grillo said.

Le Roy was second with 203 points while Letchworth was third at 176.5. Pembroke placed fifth at 142.5 and Byron-Bergen was sixth at 121.

"I said we need to wrestle above our seeds and we needed 10 to qualify for supers and we needed 13 to place, and we did just that," Grillo said. "If you paint a perfect picture it was that."
