Bulls Split at Iowa Duals

IOWA CITY, IA - The University at Buffalo wrestling team split a pair of duals on Friday at the Iowa City Duals hosted by the University at Iowa. The Bulls defeated Iowa Central, 30-15, and fell to seventh-ranked Iowa, 33-6.

The Bulls dominated Iowa Central. Kyle Akins kicked things off with a tech fall win at 125. Kobe Garrehy (157), Austin Weigel (174) and Brett Perry (184) also won by technical fall. Derek Holcomb earned his first pin of the season to get the victory. Jake Gunning won by major decision at 285.

Head Coach John Stutzman used this dual as an opportunity to try a couple guys in different weight classes. Justin Patrick, who wrestles at 125, competed at 133 and lost a close 6-5 decision. Bryan Lantry, ranked fifth in the nation at 133, went up a weight class and dropped a 4-0 decision at 141.
