Williamsville South wrestling's large roster balances experience with youth

Williamsville South's wrestling team had a lot of success on the mat last year.

The Billies finished 4-4 in an ultra-competitive ECIC Division II although three of their losses were by 12, five and one point, posted a 5-5 overall record, won the squad's first Class "A" team title in school history, qualified a school-record 11 wrestlers for the Section VI State Qualifier, and crowned a section champion.

Duplicating those types of accomplishments will be challenging as several outstanding wrestlers graduated, most notably Matt Genau, who became the school's all-time wins leader with 178, won a section title and took fifth in the state at 120 pounds. Coach Chris Heximer thinks the team can be ultra-competitive in ECIC II.
