Athletes often are beholden to the scale. Whether they're a boxer, a jockey, a mixed martial arts competitor or a football player trying to move from defensive end to linebacker, stepping on a scale becomes part of a daily routine.

But nowhere is the issue of weight, particularly cutting weight, as much of a hot-button topic as it is in wrestling. Particularly in youth and high school wrestling, where moving down a weight class can, in theory, improve performance, and thus enhance the chances of landing a college scholarship.
