Obviously, seniors Ty Rifanburg and Chris Eames knew.
Others wearing singlets in Chenango Valley's gym on that Jan. 20 day or those who had worn singlets understood.
Everyone else? Well, how could they?
Norwich's Rifanburg used a takedown in the closing seconds to defeat Horseheads' Eames, 6-5 in a draining Southern Tier Athletic Conference 170-pound final. Rifanburg and Eames have each wrestled in the past two state meets and they'll be favored this weekend to make it three straight trips to Albany.
They looked spent, Rifanburg sucking wind as he slowly rose from the mat after winning his third straight STAC title.
What's it feel like to wrestle a tough opponent for six minutes?
