The 1978-79 season has been dubbed "the lost year" for Penn State wrestling.
Penn State posted just a 2-11 record that season. It was the worst year in the history of the storied program. It was also one of the most important.
Prior to the 78-79 season, Penn State averaged 10 wins a year over the previous five seasons and had three top-10 finishes in the NCAA tournament during that span.
