Brockport Competes in New York State Intercollegiate Championships

ITHACA, N.Y.— The College at Brockport wrestling team traveled to Ithaca College where they competed in the New York State Intercollegiate Championships. The Golden Eagles finished in seventh place out of 24 schools such as Army West Point, New York University, Oswego State and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Elijah Sims impressed in the 133-weight class taking a second-place finish. His first match ended in a 12-5 decision before securing a 5:59 fall. His third competition ended in a 16-6 major decision in favor of Sims before earning an 11-6 decision in the semi-final. Despite the final's loss, the freshman wrestler impressed against good competition. Donald McCoy battled hard in the 141-weight class. After losing his first match, McCoy rattled off four straight victories after a bye. The first came in a fall at 2:24 before earning a 20-5 technical fall. McCoy's third victory in a fall at 2:18 along with a fall at 4:16 in his fourth bout.

Chris Eames was a factor in the 174-weight class bracket working his way to the seventh-round bout after winning three straight matches. His first two wins came in a 16-2 and 13-5 major decision. His third victory appeared in a 9-3 decision. In the 285-weight class, Calik Kennedy grinded his way to a sixth-place finish. After dropping his first battle, Kennedy rattled off four straight wins after a bye. His first win came in the form of a 12-0 major decision. Next, Kennedy advance due to an injury to the opposition before pinning his next opponent in 6:12. His fourth win ended in a 16-3 major decision, before dropping the fifth-place bout to take sixth.
