NT grad hoping to inject culture change into wrestling program
December 04, 2018

New North Tonawanda wrestling coach Wally Maziarz knows what it takes to have success on the mat.

The 2010 NT graduate was a six-year varsity wrestler for the Lumberjacks, winning close to 150 matches from 96 to 145 pounds, which was a school record before it was topped by Troy Keller in 2016. He never advanced to the state tournament, but took third at the state qualifier in his senior year despite wrestling with a torn meniscus and a partial tear of his medial collateral ligament.

As a club wrestler outside of high school wrestling, Maziarz won two state tournaments in freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling, which helped him get recruited by the University at Buffalo.
