ROCHESTER, NY - Junior Dempsey King (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) of the RIT wrestling team, was named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Jan. 6, 2019. It is King's first weekly honor of the 2018-19 season and third of his collegiate career.

King won all five bouts to secure the individual championship at 165 lbs. at the Citrus Open in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. On Dec. 29-30. King began his journey towards a title with a 15-0 technical fall win over Colin Honderd of Cornell College and won by decision over Sam Gross of John Carroll and James Murdoch (the 2018 NYS Champion) of NYU Saturday. In the semifinals, King earned a crucial win in overtime over Rodney Shepard of UNC Pembroke, 10-8, who was a 2018 Division II All-American and is ranked second nationally this season. King clinched the title with a 7-3 victory over fifth-ranked Andrew Tolbert of Ferrum in the championship match Sunday.

He won both matches at the NY/PA Duals at Oswego Saturday, including one by fall as RIT rolled to wins over King's College and Oswego State. King is now 15-3 in 2018-19.
