February 24, 2019

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - Penn State showed why it's the top wrestling program in the country as it defeated the University at Buffalo, 47-3, in front of a capacity crowd at Rec Hall on Sunday afternoon. It was the final dual of a very successful season for the Bulls who finished with a 12-5 record - tying the school record for wins in a season as a Division I program.

"We fought hard," head coach John Stutzman. "That's the best team in the country and one of the best of all time. It's time to get ready for the MACs."

Kyle Akins earned the lone points for the Bulls winning a 5-0 decision over Justin Lopez at 125 lbs. in the opening match of the dual. It capped a strong weekend for the redshirt-sophomore who recorded a pin on Friday against Northern Illinois.

Derek Spann dropped his first dual match of the season, losing a 14-5 major decision to Roman Bravo-Young. Spann finished the dual season 16-1. His 16 dual wins on the season rank seventh in school history.

The Bulls will now get ready for the Mid-American Conference Championships. They will take place March 8-9 at Old Dominion University.
