Levendusky Sisters All-American in Oklahoma

NEWS

After each of them recently winning NY state titles, Esther and Audrey Levendusky of Avon represented Western NY at the women's wrestling Oklahoma Folkstyle Nationals last weekend in Oklahoma City, OK. Both made the podium and come home as All-Americans. Esther placed 8th at 117 pounds in the 16 & Under division while little sister Audrey placed 7th at 80 pounds in the 12 & Under division.

"Female wrestling is exploding in NY and in the country," said father-coach Derek Levendusky. "To place at a national level event like this is no small accomplishment because there's so much depth now. We're very thankful and proud."

In February, Esther recently won the PSAL (Public Schools Athletic League) high school girls' state title in NYC, and followed it up with a NYWAY state title in March. Audrey also won the NYWAY state title and won the Most Outstanding Wrestler award at that event.

"It feels good to finally be recognized nationally because it takes a lot of hard work as a wrestler to get there," said Esther Levendusky. "It was fun being out there with the Team NY and with my sister because we're all there for each other."

Both sisters were on Team NY, which performed well, including one team member, Sofia Macaluso, winning two national titles in both the 16U and Junior divisions.

"I was super proud of all our NY girls. Almost every Team NY girl won a match," said mother-coach Heidi Jo Levendusky, also on the New York coaching staff in Oklahoma. "Even those who didn't place wrestled well. Weren't a huge team, but you could say we were small but mighty."
Meanwhile, big sister Joye, 2018 Avon grad, became an All-American at WCWA Nationals in February, placing 7th while competing for national champion McKendree University.
The entire family, including the Levendusky boys, will compete at NUWAY Nationals in Michigan next month.
