Binghamton Announces 2019-20 Incoming Class

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton wrestling's head coach Kyle Borshoff has announced his 2019-20 recruiting class- a group of eight elite wrestlers set to join the program this fall.

Joining the Bearcats are Sam DePrez (Hilton, N.Y.), Jacob Nolan (Saranac, N.Y.), Carson Sauriol (Poway, CA), JR Kazalas (Sewickley, PA), Cory Day (Iroquois, N.Y.), AJ Derosa (Milford, N.J.), Matthew Schreiber (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Tommaso Frezza (Buffalo Grove, IL/Italy).

Here is a capsule look at each incoming student-athlete.

Sam DePrez | 197 | Hilton, NY
1st at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Division l State Tournament at 195lbs after finishing 3rd in 2018 at 182lbs.
He also is a two time Section V Champion, a 2018 Eastern States Classic Champion, a 2018 Journeymen Preseason Classic Champion, and a 2018 Super 32 Place winner.
He was also a member of the Lacrosse team his senior year that finished as Section V Class A runner-ups.
"Sam DePrez continues to add to the DePrez dynasty that has existed over the past 5 years," Borshoff said. "He comes to the program as a nationally ranked recruit and a NYS champion. I'm confident that he will have a great positive impact on our program."

Jacob Nolan | 165/174 | Saranac, NY
1st at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Division ll State Tournament at 170lbs after finishing 2nd in 2018 at 160lbs.
He finished his career as a four-time state placer finishing 1-2-4-6.
He was also a two time Section VII Champion, and a two time North Country Invite Tournament Champion.
He also was named to the NYSSWA Class C all-state football team twice, as a receiver, and has both career and single-season Section 7 records in receiving yards.
In addition to that, he was a 2019 NYSPHSAA state qualifier in Tennis.
"Jacob Nolan comes into the program having placed at nearly every national level competition he has competed in," Borshoff said. "He also won a NYS title this past season to cap off his senior year. He had been a 3 sport athlete during high school, and I am excited to see what he can do when he puts his entire focus into wrestling."

Carson Sauriol | 125 | Poway, CA
Carson finished his career as a two time CIF State placer for Poway High School.
He finished 7th in 2019 at 120lbs and 5th in 2017 at 113lbs.
He also was a two time Section Champion, a two time San Diego Masters Champion, and he placed 8th at 120lbs at the 2018 prestigious Ironman Tournament.
"Carson Sauriol comes to the program from Poway California, one of the strongest programs in the state," Borshoff said. "Carson is a 2x California state place winner, as well as a Walsh Ironman place winner. He will add depth to our roster at 125, and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish as a Bearcat."

JR Kazalas | 149 | Sewickley, PA
Finished his career as a two-time PIAA State Class AA placer for Quaker Valley High School.
He finished 5th in 2019 at 145lbs and 6th in 2017 at 126lbs.
He also finished 1st at the 2019 WPIAL Wrestling Championships.
He also has an impressive background in the combat sport Judo.
He is an IJF (International Judo Federation) three-time national champ, winning titles in 2008, 2010, and 2013. He also took third in 2015.
"JR Kazalas comes to the program from Western Pennsylvania and has been described to us as an individual with an extreme work ethic that is willing to put in as much time as needed to accomplish his goals," Borshoff said. "He is a 2x PA state place winner and the winner of the WPIAL vs NY all star match. I am excited about him adding depth to our roster among the middle weights."

Cory Day | 165/174 | Iroquois, NY
Cory finished 1st at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Division ll State Tournament at 160lbs after finishing 4th in 2018 at 145lbs.
He is also a two time Section VI Champion.
He also was named to the 2018 Erie County Interscholastic Conference baseball team (Section VI) (Center Field).
In addition to that in football, he was a 2018 all-state (Wr, Rb)
"Cory Day is also joining the program as a NYS champion this past season," Borshoff said. "He showed an enormous amount of grit this past season beating some very good wrestlers on his was to his championships. Additionally his father was the coach of former Bearcat standout Dylan Caruana."

AJ Derosa | 133/141 | Milford, NJ
Finished his career as a two time NJSIAA State Qualifier.
He also was a two-time NJSIAA District 19 Champion, a one-time NJSIAA Region 5 Runner-up and one-time Region 5 Champion.
"AJ DeRosa comes to the program from NJ, where he was a multiple time state qualifier," Borshoff said. "AJ will add depth to our roster at the 133lb weight class, I am excited to get him into the room where he can begin to work with our strong core of lightweights."

Mathew Schreiber | 125 | Chappaqua, NY
Finished his career as a two-time NYSPHSAA Division l State placer.
He finished 5th at 106lbs the 2019 NYSPHSAA Division I State Championships after finishing in 6th at 99lb in 2018.
"Matthew Schreiber is a multiple time NYS place winner," Borshoff said. "He will be another wrestler adding depth to our strong core of light weight wrestlers. I look forward to seeing how he progresses once he gets to campus."

Tommaso Frezza | 125 | Buffalo Grove, IL/Italy
Current junior world team rep for the Italian National Team.
He also finished 6th at the 2018 Illinois State Championships.
"Tommy Frezza comes to the program from Illinois/Italy," Borshoff said. "Tommy is an IL state place winner. He also just competed at the junior European championships for team Italy where he finished 7th overall. I am excited to see how he will grow within our program."
