Buffalo's McBryde Finishes Fifth at the U23 World Championships

BUFFALO, NY - Former University at Buffalo wrestler and current volunteer assistant coach Muhamed McBryde placed fifth at the Under 23 World Championships that just concluded in Budapest, Hungary. It is the highest finish ever by a UB wrestler at the World Championships.

McBryde, who wrestled at Buffalo from 2013-2017, competed in the freestyle 79 kg bracket. In his opening match, he earned a 5-0 decision over Erik Reinbok of Estonia. McBryde dropped his second match to Georgia's Tariel Gaphrindashvili, 4-2.

In the consolation bracket, McBryde won a 4-0 decision over Mostafa Sayed of Egypt to advance to the bronze medal match. However, in the bronze medal match, McBryde' run came to an end when he lost an 8-3 decision to Turkey's Ramazan Sari.
