Duo wins their respective brackets, DePrez beats No. 2 nationally ranked wrestler

The Binghamton University wrestling team competed for the first time in the 2019-20 season Sunday in Vestal and put together a strong overall performance as eight players placed in their respective draws. The duo of Lou DePrez and Zack Trampe came in first place overall while Audey Ashkar and Anthony Sparacio put together second place finishes. Joe Doyle (4th place), Alexander Melikian (5th place), Carson Sauriol and Jacob Nolan (both 6th place) were the others to place on the afternoon.

"I'm very pleased with how we performed today," said head coach Kyle Borshoff. "We wanted to use today to figure out what needs to be tweaked and tuned up for the season, but we were also able to be very successful in the process."

As mentioned, the two standouts from the event were Lou DePrez and Zack Trampe, as both did not lose. DePrez sailed through his matchups, and reached the final where he was met by the No. 2 nationally ranked wrestler from Cornell, Ben Darmstadt. After falling behind 2-0 in the finale, DePrez dominated the remainder of the bout and went on to win 7-2.

Trampe would dominate his opponents in the early rounds, and put together some gutsy wins late including a 9-6 victory to seal the 133 title.
