Brockport State's Knapp Named ECWC Wrestler of the Week

Brockport, NY - Richard Knapp of the Brockport wrestling team was named the ECWC Wrestler of the Week following his dominant performances over the course of the first two weeks of the season. Taking over the 285-weight division, Knapp won his weight class for the third straight time this season over the weekend, making him undefeated thus far.

Knapp was off to a hot start after pinning his opponent in only 15 seconds for six team points in the final match of the Penn State Behrend dual meet. This topped off Brockport's 50-0 win over the Lions.

During the Brockport Open, Knapp continued to show dominance by pinning his first three opponents. His final match of the day for first place was won 8-3 by decision, declaring him winner of the 285-weight class. Looking into the wins, Knapp only needed a total time of 7:22 to pin all three opponents allowing him to compete in the 1st place match.

The sophomore from Binghamton then traveled with the team to Ohio for the Mount Union Invitational this past weekend. Going into his first match of the day, Knapp ended up pinning his opponent in 1:45. Advancing him to the tournament quarterfinals of the 285-weight class. He won his semifinal bout 5-1. The Golden Eagle then went on to win his semifinal match by pinning his opponent in 1:09. This resulted in his 6th pin out of nine matches so far this season. During the finals, Knapp won by decision 4-2, gifting him first place in Ohio tournament.

Knapp returns to the mat Nov. 24 at Oswego for the 51st New York State Collegiate Championships.
