Binghamton's Melikian, Doyle take second at Daktronics Open

The Binghamton wrestling team finished a successful weekend at South Dakota State, competeing against some of the top teams in the country Sunday. Alexander Melikian and Joe Doyle highlighted the team's efforts, placing second in their respective brackets as Anthony Sparacio took fourth. The tournament featured the likes of No. 5 Nebraska, No. 15 Minnesota, North Dakota State, and host South Dakota State.

"We got to wrestle a lot of great competition that we may not otherwise see this season," said head coach Kyle Borshoff. Overall, it was a good weekend and I am looking forward to the team continuing to grow as we move forward this season."

Melikian won three of four bouts to take second and won his last three matchups. Doyle won twice and fell in the heavyweight final to take second. He had a win by fall and a major decision victory.

Sparacio finished the day with a 3-2 record en route to a 4th place finish in the 141 pound bracket. Audey Ashkar matched Sparacio with a fourth place finish, reaching the consolation final after falling in his opening bout.

A.J. DeRosa, Michael Zarif and Chris Barker round out the Bearcats to pick up victories.
