JCC's Torres and Pool place at the Waynesburg Invitational

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - Dan Torres continues his success in his sophomore campaign, winning the 174 pound weight class at the Waynesburg Invitational hosted by Waynesburg University.

The Waynesburg Invitational was showcased talent from teams from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, USCAA and NJCAA. The Jayhawks finished in 12th place, scoring 35 points.

Torres grinded all day, winning two matches by decision, one in overtime and one by fall. Torres knocked off Damani Wallace of Adrian in his first match, winning by fall in 2:56. In his next match, Torres bested Jaden Datz of Washington & Jefferson in a 3-1 sudden victory-1 win.

In the semifinal match, Torres defeated Connor Kwait of Ohio Northern, this time with a bigger cushion in a 5-0 decision win. IN the first-place match, Torres gutted out a 3-2 decision win over Hunter Neely.

Cody Pool (125) had a great debut in the gold and green, placing fourth in his respective weight class. Pool started his day with a fall over Branlty Guckert of Alderson Broaddus, needing 2:14 to do so. In the semifinal match, Pool was defeated by Colton Messick of Apprentice by a fall at the 6:29 mark. In the third-place match, Pool was defeated by Brendan Coughlin of Alderson Broaddus by fall as Coughlin needed 36 seconds to do so.

Joey Perry (149) had himself a solid day as he picked up three wins. In his first match, Perry was defeated by Chase Summer of Ohio Northern by fall at the 2:15 mark. Moving onto the consolation side of the bracket, Perry picked up the fall over Trenton Wills of Pitt-Bradford needing 1:30 to get the win. Perry went on to defeat Eric Moughalian of Gettysburg by a 9-4 decision. Perry fell to Fairmont State in his final match.

Taige Jones (141) picked up two wins on the day while Max Wills (hwt.) got one win on the day.

The Jayhawks will be back in action on January 15th as they travel to Mercyhurst North East for a dual at 6 p.m.
