Pair of Alfred State Pioneers Place at John Summa Invitational

A pair of Pioneers placed at the John Summa Invitational today as Alfred State finished 8th at the 11 team event hosted by Baldwin Wallace.

Owen Kissell (Alden) led the team with a 5th place finish in the 141 lb. weight class. After an opening round loss he was able to rattle off three straight wins. He pinned Matt Gawron (Niagara CCC) in 33 seconds, pinned Paul Knapp in 1:59, and pinned Connore Deboe (Baldwin Wallace) in 59 seconds to advance to the consolation semifinals. He was tripped up in the consolation semifinals but earned a medical forfeit victory over Ryan McElwee (Ohio Wesleyan) to earn 5th place.

Anthony Miraglia (Byron Bergen) finished the day 3-3 and earned 6th in the 149 lb. bracket. He pinned Cody Snook (Wabash) in his opening round match. After falling in the quarterfinals, he pinned Kole Taylor (Brockport) and earned a 12-4 major decision over Dustin Dunkirk (Brockport) to advance to the consolation semifinals. He was unable to pick up wins in his final two matches and finished in 6th.

Kyle Fitzgerald (Constableville/South Lewis) picked up three victories in the heavyweight competition. he pinned James Kimbrough (Thiel) in 4:40 and beat Cole Mefford (Ohio Northern) 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. He fell 6-2 in the quarters but earned a 7-6 win over Parker Meaney (Baldwin Wallace) in the consolation bracket to stay alive. His day came to an end in a tough 2-1 tie breaker decision.
Jesse Pitoni (Churchville Chili) was 2-2 in the 133 lb. weight class with a major decision over Cade Cox (Wabash) and a medical forfeit win over Jett Pattison (West Liberty).
Jacob DeWall (Waterloo) was 2-2 in the heavyweight bracket with pins of Zach Baughman (Waynesburg) in 1:57 and Leo Fetterolf (Waynesburg) in 4:38.
The Pioneers scored 36 points on the day in the team competition.

The blue & gold wrestle their final dual of the year on Friday (2/14) when they host Jamestown CC at 7 p.m.
