February 13, 2020

BROCKPORT, NY - The SUNY Brockport wrestling team moved back into the top 25 of the Division III National Poll published on InterMatWrestle.com this week. The Golden Eagles are now ranked No. 23 nationally in the poll.

Brockport is currently 8-1 in dual meets this season, with its lone loss of the year coming recently against nationally-ranked No. 20 RIT. The Golden Eagles are led by legendary head coach Don Murray, who is in the midst of his 50th season at the helm. Murray is the longest tenured head coach in division III and he is just one of four active NCAA coaches with 50 or more years on the job. Murray has never had a losing dual meet season in 50 years, compiling a record of 359-82-7.

Brockport standout Matt Caccamise is currently ranked No. 5 nationally in the 125 pound weight class. Caccamise, who qualified for NCAA's last season, has a 26-2 record overall this year. He has now won 11 straight matches, including a first place finish last weekend at the John Summa Invite. He also has first place finishes this year at the New York State College Tournament, the Brockport Open and the Mount Union Invitational. He added a second place finish at the New Standard Invitational back in December.

Elijah Sims recently reached the 20 win plateau for the season this past weekend following his second place finish in the 141 pound weight class last weekend at the John Summa Invite. Sims has a 20-5 overall record on the year.

Heavyweight Richard Knapp is 29-3 overall and has dominated the competition all season. 18 of his 29 wins have come by way of pin. He has three first place finishes and two third place tournament finishes this season.

Austin Reed has a 23-12 record this year at the 149 pound weight class for the Golden Eagles. He won the Mount Union Invite in November and placed fourth at the John Summa Invite over the weekend.

Chris Eames boasts a 22-11 record this year, while Joe Yanis is 21-9.

Brockport returns to the mat on Friday when the Golden Eagles travel to Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA for the Penn Tech Dual. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles have their sights set on the upcoming NCAA Division III MidEast Regionals hosted by Ithaca College on February 29 and March 1.
