#23 Brockport Places Third at NCAA Mideast Regionals; Qualifies Three for NCAA Championships

ITHACA, NY - The nationally-ranked No. 23 Brockport wrestling team placed third in the team competition and claimed three individual regional titles Sunday at the 2020 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by Ithaca College. Matt Caccamise (125 lb), Elijah Sims (141 lb) and Richard Knapp (285 lb) won regional titles to punch their tickets to the NCAA Division III Championships set to be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 13-14.

Nine Golden Eagles earned a podium finish as Brockport collected 116.5 team points to edge nationally-ranked RIT by one point in the team standings. The third place finish marked the highest team finish for Brockport since 2016. Ithaca College and TCNJ tied for the regional title with team scores of 144.5.

Caccamise pinned Terry Adams from Ursinaus in the 125 pound semifinal match (1:51) to cruise into the finals against TCNJ's Daniel Ortega. Caccamise earned a 7-5 sudden victory over Ortega in the championship bout to earn his second straight NCAA bid. Caccamis will head to nationals with a 30-2 overall record.
