USA Qualifies 11 of 14 Weights for the Olympics
March 16, 2020

Men's Freestyle

Overall, the U.S. went 14-1 in men’s freestyle and now has five out of six weight classes qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

USA's Zain Retherford took third place, leaving 65kg unqualified. The U.S. will have the opportunity to qualify the remaining weight classes at the Last Chance Olympic Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria, at a yet to be determined date.

Women's Freestyle

The U.S. went four for four in the women’s freestyle semifinals at the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier. This secured weight class berths at the Olympic Games at 50 kg, 53 kg, 57 kg and 62 kg for the United States. Given that the U.S. had already qualified 68 kg and 72 kg for the Olympic Games at the 2019 World Championships, all six Olympic weight classes have now been qualified in women’s freestyle.

Men's Greco-Roman

The U.S. has qualified four weights and will have one more shot to qualify the two remaining weight classes at the Last Chance Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria. The date for the event is not set yet.

Here's Zain Retherford yesterday (at the Pan-Am Olympic Qualifier) losing to the Argentinian that Yianni Diakomihalis beat last weekend (at the Pan-Am Championships). Zain's loss means that whoever wins the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will then have to go to a "last-chance qualifier" tournament in Bulgaria and qualify the weight before the Olympics.
