BROCKPORT, NY - Richard Knapp of the SUNY Brockport wrestling team capped his season ranked No. 9 nationally in the 285 pound weight class by the highly popular InterMat wrestling website.

Knapp finished his season with a 34-3 overall record and placed first in the 285 pound weight class at the NCAA Regionals to punch his ticket to nationals for the first time in his career. He won the regional title following a thrilling 3-2 decision win over Keegan Connelly of Scranton. His road to the regional title also included a redemption victory over RIT's Sam Weinger (3-1 decision), who he had lost to in a dual meet earlier in the season.

He opened the season with a first place finish at the Brockport Open and he also added tournament victories at the New York College Tournament and the Mount Union Invite. He placed third at both the New Standard Invite and the John Summa Invitational.

Knapps's national title hopes were halted abruptly following the cancelation of all NCAA Championships due to the COVID-19 quarantine.
