Brackets Released on Eve of MAC Championships

TRENTON, NJ - The brackets have been released on the eve of the Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships that begin tomorrow in Trenton, NJ.

Tristan Daugherty (5-2, 5-2 MAC) will face Ohio's Oscar Sanchez is his first match of the day. This will be the first meeting between the two. Daugherty wrestled and defeated Gio DeSabato when the Bulls hosted Ohio back in January.

Caleb Svingala (1-3, 0-3 MAC) will face second-seeded Brendon Fenton in his first match. The two have never wrestled against each other.

Making his first appearance at the MAC Championships as a 141-pounder, Derek Spann (4-2, 4-2 MAC) will go up against Edinboro's Gabe Willochell. This will be the first meeting between the two as Spann defeated Edinboro's Ryan Burgos when the teams met earlier this season.

Ben Freeman (2-2, 1-2 MAC) drew George Mason's A.J. Poindexter of George Mason in his first match. The two have not wrestled before.

Michael Petite (3-4, 3-4 MAC) will face Clarion's Tate Ortiz in his first match. The two met back in January with Petite earning a 14-4 major decision.

Noah Grover (3-4, 3-3 MAC) will face two-seed Izzak Olejnik in his first match. Grover will be looking to avenge a loss from earlier in the season when Olejnik was able to pin Grover in the third period.

Jake Lanning (0-4, 0-3 MAC) drew eighth-seed Austin Bell of Lock Haven for his first match. The two have never met before.

Giuseppe Hoose (2-3, 2-3 MAC) will face eighth-seeded Ryan Yarnell of SIU-Edwardsville in his first match. The two met in Hoose's first collegiate match back in January. Yarnell pulled out a 10-6 decision that day.

Sam Mitchell (3-4, 3-4 MAC) will face second-seeded Rocky Elam of Missouri in his first match. It will be the first meeting between the two wrestlers.

Sam Schuyler (4-0, 3-0 MAC) will face Cleveland State's John Kelbly in his first match. Like Spann, Schulyer is entering the MAC Championships at a new weight, after competing at 197 last year. He has never faced Kelbly.

Action is scheduled to start at 11 am.
