Ithaca Wrestling Announces 2021-22 Schedule
September 21, 2021

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College wrestling team unveiled its entire 2021-22 schedule in what will be the program's 80th varsity season. Under the helm of head coach Marty Nichols, IC has four individual tournaments, two tri-meets, three dual tournaments, and two dual meets listed on its upcoming schedule.

The Bombers kickoff their highly anticipated campaign with the 37th Annual Ithaca Invitational tournament on November 5-6 at the A&E Center. IC finished third in the team race and crowned three individual champions in the most recent event in 2019.

Ithaca's road swing starts off with an Oswego and Penn College Tri-meet on November 14, as well as the New York State Championships in Cortland the following week on November 20. The Bombers have finished top-three in the tournament team race each of the past three full regular seasons.

IC will then flip the script from December 3-4 when it travels south to York College of Pennsylvania for the Spartan Invitational tournament. In 2019, the Bombers had five place winners, including two individual champions, and collectively finished fifth as a team.

The dual and individual tournament slates continue through the month of January, beginning with the Bud Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania from January 7-8. Ithaca then returns home when it hosts the ECWC Championships on January 15. The Bombers have dominated the field over the past six tournaments by winning the team race in each of them.

Ithaca's next stop will be at Wilkes University on January 23 for the John Wilkes Duals tournament. The team then welcomes Stevens Tech, TCNJ, and Cornell to the South Hill on January 29 for the Ithaca Duals. This will mark the first meeting on the mat between the Bombers and the Big Red since 1998.

IC closes the dual season with a pair of matchups against in-state foes. On February 11, the Bombers welcome Wilkes to Ben Light Gymnasium in what will potentially be their final home event of the season.

The regular season concludes on February 16 when IC travels to rival SUNY Cortland for the annual Rumble & Tumble Meet. Ithaca has won seven of the last eight dual meets against the Red Dragons.

All eyes are on the postseason, as IC will send 10 grapplers to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships from February 26-27. Ithaca tied for the team title and qualified six wrestlers for nationals back in 2020.

The common phrase "March Matness" will commence 12 days later, where the Bombers will look to take dead aim at claiming their fourth NCAA Division III Team Championship in program history. The 2022 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships will take place from March 11-12 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
