RIT Wrestling pair take ECWC weekly awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Senior Kaidon Winters and sophomore Michael Glynn III took Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference wrestler of the week awards, Thursday. Winters earned Wrestler of the Week and Glynn was awarded Rookie of the Week for their first-place finishes last weekend at the Ned McGinley Invitational at Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on Nov. 6.

Wrestler of the Week: Winters won the 141 lb. Ned McGinley Invitational title with five pins in just under eight minutes. The senior grappler had RIT's most impressive finish of the day after disposing of all five of his opponents by fall in a combined 7:51. Winters took his weight class with a 2:14 pin of Cortland's James Udasco in the championship bout. In the semifinals, Winters pinned Scranton's Daniel Kosinski in 2:06. Prior to that, he pinned Kevin Luker (Roger Williams) in 1:15, Maximus Parra (NYU) in 11 seconds and Chandler Marwin (Cortland) in 2:05.

Rookie of the Week: Glynn won the 149 lb. Ned McGinley Invitational title with a 5-0 record. He took the title bout with a 9-2 decision over NYU's Anthony Chavez after advancing with a semifinal fall over Ben Bariso (Roger Williams) in 1:59. Prior to that, the sophomore took fall victories over Greg Croce (Delaware Valley) in 1:55 and Jack Garcia (NYU) in 39 seconds, before starting his title trek with a 2-0 decision over Nicholas Semon (Penn).

RIT wrestling next travels to Cleveland for the Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday, Nov. 14.
