Seventh-Ranked Ithaca Wrestling Team Remains Perfect In Duals With 31-12 Win

ITHACA, N.Y. - The seventh-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team competed in its first home dual match of the season and defeated Oswego 31-12 on Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers improved to 4-0 in duals this season, while Oswego fell to 0-2. Ithaca won seven of the 10 weight classes during the dual, including two by pin and two by major decision.

Jimmy Kaishian started the event with a 9-5 decision victory at 125 pounds and that was followed by a major decision victory by Alex Gomez at 133. Gomez improved to 8-2 on the year and is ranked first in his weight class by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Ithaca's other nationally-ranked individual, Dominick Giacolone, added bonus points with a 15-3 major decision win at 141. That gave the Bombers an 11-0 lead in the dual-meet scoring.

Oswego earned a decision victory at 149 pounds and a win by pin at 165, which came on either side of a forfeit victory by Ithaca at 157 pounds.

At 174, Kristopher Schimek of Ithaca dominated his Oswego opponent. Schimek scored 14 points in the first period on four takedowns and two near falls, and then won by pin 42 seconds into the second period. Ithaca won another bout by pin at 197, when Matt Booth scored a first-period fall in 1:43. The final bout of the afternoon was a victory for Shane Bartrum

Ithaca returns to action Jan. 10-11 at the Division III National Duals in Williamsport, Pa.
