Bulls Cruise to 27-6 Victory over LIU

BROOKLYN, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team won its third straight dual on Friday night with a 27-6 victory at LIU. The win improved the Bulls to 8-5 on the season.


The Bulls won their first five matches of the night to set the tone.


After missing some time with an injury, Tristan Daugherty was back in the lineup and started things off with a 7-3 decision over Robbie Sagaris at 125.


Derek Spann followed with a 16-0 tech fall at 133. A four-point near fall, his third of the match, gave him the tech fall at the end of the first period.


Ben Freeman (141) and Long Island-native John Arceri (149) followed with decisions to up the lead to 14-0. Hunter Shaut, back in the lineup after starting the last two duals, won again with an 8-2 decision.


At 165, Noah Grover nearly pinned Blake Bahna but had to settle for the 10-1 major decision.


Pete Acciardi got an escape and earned a takedown in the final minute of the match to pull out a 3-2 decision over James Langan at 184.


Toby Cahill capped the scoring with a 5-2 decision over Tim Nagosky at heavyweight.


"Not a bad outing," head coach John Stutzman said. "We had some really solid performances starting with TD [Tristan Daugherty] at 125 and finishing with Toby [Cahill] at 285."

The Bulls will stay on Long Island and wrestle at Hofstra tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm.
