Jayhawks Place Four Wrestlers At Adrian Invitational

ADRIAN, Mich. - In their first competition of the new season, the Jamestown Community College wrestling team traveled out to the midwest for the Adrian Invitational where they placed 11th out of 15 teams that competed, scoring 19 points.

Brendon Ramsey (Panama, NY/Panama Central) was the highest placer for JCC, finishing second place in the 133 pound weight class with a record of 3-1 on the day. In his first match of the day, Ramsey won by an 8-2 decision over Chase Packard of Siena Heights University. Moving onto the quarterfinals, Ramsey kept his momentum going by getting the fall over David Gelman of Walbash College, needing 1:23 to do so.

Heading into the semifinals, Ramsey got the 10-2 major decision over Easton Moran of St. Clair County Community College to put him in the championship match. In the championship match, Ramsey was bested by Elijah Moshenek of Alfred State College via a 9-3 decision match.

Freshman Mohammed Mustafa Salimi (Kabal, Afghanistan/Ghazi HS) had a solid start to his collegiate career, going 6-1 on the day and placed third in the 174 pound weight class. Salimi was edged out by Eli Johnson of Walbash College by a 12-10 decision and moved him in the consolation bracket. After a bye, Salimi started to get on a roll, getting the fall over Tyler Pelech of Alfred State College, needing 2:25 to do so. Salimi kept the momentum going in his next match, getting the fall over Nick Campos of Walbash College, this time needing 2:09.

Moving on in the consolation round, Salimi grinded out a 12-9 decision win over Michael Gabbard of Averett University and a 16-13 decision win over Spencer Phillips of Walbash College.

In the consolation semifinals, Salimi made quick work of Jovante Hobbs of Averett University, getting the fall in 34 seconds. In the third-place match, Salimi faced Johnson once again, this time getting the 6-4 decision victory.

Brock Johnson (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) started his sophomore campaign strong, placing third in the 197 pound weight class. Johnson started his day strong, getting the 13-3 major decision victory over Shane Shirley Averett University. Heading into the quarterfinals, Johnson grinded out an 8-4 decision win over Preston Calvert of Adrian College to move onto the semifinals.

In his semifinals match, Johnson fell by a 15-0 tech. fall against Owen Johnson of Toledo University Club. Heading into the consolation round, Johnson got back on track, getting the 10-3 decision victory over Jasiri Dingle of Averett University. In the third-place match, Johnson faced Calvert once again, this time getting the fall in just 46 seconds.

The final Jayhawk to place was sophomore De'Aonte Hutchinson (Baltimore, MD/Edgewood HS), finishing in fifth place in the 125 pound weight class. Hutchinson started his day off with griddy wins, getting the 4-2 decision victory over Cole Renier of Heidelberg University and an 11-10 decision win over Ja'Shad Bumpers of the University of Pitt-Bradford.

Heading into the semifinals, Hutchinson was bested by Daniel Parkulo of Averett University by an 8-2 decision.

Moving onto the consolation semifinals, Hutchinson faced Renier once again and this time, got the 12-4 major decision victory. In the fifth-place match, Hutchinson faced Bumpers yet again and this time, needed extra time to get the 9-7 sudden overtime win.

Julian Martin (Angola, NY/Lakeshore Sr. HS) also picked up a pair of wins today in the 141 pound weight class.

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Saturday, November 12th, as they travel to the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at 10 a.m.
