Lady Soaring Eagles Defeat Lakeland At Adrian Duals On Saturday

ADRIAN, MICH. - The No. 19 nationally ranked Elmira College women's wrestling program took part in the Adrian Duals on Saturday afternoon as the Soaring Eagles won their opening match against Lakeland University before dropping three consecutive matches.

The dual field included several nationally ranked programs including No. 14 Adrian and No. 7 Tiffin (Ohio).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first dual of the day for the Soaring Eagles would start in favor of the Purple & Gold with three forfeits by Lakeland at 101, 109, and 116 pounds. Abby Duke '26 wrestled at 123 pounds for EC and notched a 12-2 victory via a Tech Fall before a double forfeit by both teams at 130 pounds.

Leslie Monterrosa '24 returned to the mat for the Soaring Eagles and notched a 12-2 victory via a Tech Fall at 143 pounds. Skylah Chakouian '25 and Hazel Dahlquist '25 closed out the contested bouts for Elmira with Chakouian notching a 10-0 Tech Fall victory and Dahlquist a pin at the 40-second mark.

The second match of the day for EC was in the form of Adrian as the Bulldogs used three victories at 143, 155, and 170 pounds to rally past the Soaring Eagles. Skylynn Tomlinson '26 opened the match with a 10-0 Tech Fall victory at 101 pounds for EC.

Ariyanna Orosco '26 followed with a pin at the 3:35 mark of her 109-pound bout for the Purple & Gold. At 136 pounds, Gabby Bradigan '26 needed just 42 seconds to notch a pin for EC. Tayana Labady '25 closed the match with a 10-0 Tech Fall victory for EC at 191 pounds.

Elmira and Tiffin battled in the third match of the day for the Soaring Eagles as the score would come down to the final bout at 191 pounds. Labady notched a pin at the 4:10 for a victory, but a pin for the Dragons at 170 pounds would be the difference on the scoreboard. Bradigan won her bout for EC at 136 pounds via a pin, while Chakouian recorded an 11-4 decision for the win at 155 pounds.

The Soaring Eagles would notch a pair of victories via pin in their final match of the day against Indiana Tech. Chakouian recorded a pin at the 2:35 mark wrestling at 155 pounds, while Labady notched a pin at the 1:12 mark wrestling at 191 pounds.

The Purple & Gold return to the mat on Sunday as they take part in the Adrian College Women's Invitational. Action is slated to get underway at 11:00 A.M. on the campus of Adrian College.
