Bearcats drop six of the first seven bouts before winning the last three.

FARGO, N.D. - Binghamton wrestling dropped their first road match of the season to North Dakota State at Scheels Center on Friday night. The Bearcats started slow, losing six of the first seven bouts for the second straight match, before winning the final three. Michael Zarif was the only Bearcat to pick up bonus points for the team in the win. Zarif cruised to a 13-4 major decision win against Gabriel Schumm at 149 pounds. The Bearcats controlled the matches in the upper weight classes, but the comeback attempt fell short. No. 22 Jacob Nolan scored a takedown with 15 seconds left in the third period to win a 3-1 decision at 184 pounds. No. 7 Lou DePrez scored three takedowns en route to an 8-1 decision win over No. 29 Owen Pentz at 197 pounds. Cory Day also scored a takedown in the final seconds to edge Juan Mora 5-4 at heavyweight.

Highlights

At 141 pounds, Nate Lucier dropped a hard-fought decision to No. 9 Dylan Droegemueller, 7-5. Lucier, wrestling in his second career dual, scored a takedown late in the third period.

Michael Zarif improved to 2-0 in duals on the season with a 13-4 major decision win over Gabriel Schumm at 149 pounds.

At 184 pounds, No. 22 Jacob Nolan improved to 2-0 on the season, scoring a takedown late in the third period to edge No. 29 DJ Parker, 3-1.

No. 7 Lou DePrez coasted his way to an 8-1 decision win over Owen Peltz at 197 pounds. DePrez is 2-0 on the season.

Cory Day dialed up a last-second takedown to edge Juan Mora, 5-4 at 285 pounds. Day also won his second dual of the season.

"We were a match short again in a very winnable dual meet," said head coach Kyle Borshoff. "I'm proud of the guys that found a way to win today. We need to clean up some small mistakes, and we're right there with the best teams in the country."

Binghamton will travel to Minneapolis to take on No. 13 Minnesota at Maturi Pavilion on Sunday. The match begins at 2 p.m.
