Bulls Sweep Edinboro and Bucknell on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team earned a pair of impressive victories on Sunday afternoon, defeating Edinboro and Bucknell. The Bulls defeated Mid-American Conference-foe Edinboro, 26-6, in the opener and then took down Bucknell, 21-9.

The Bulls won the first five matches against Edinboro to take control of the dual.

Mason Bush started things off in exciting fashion, earning a takedown at the final buzzer to earn a 6-5 decision over Aiden Lewis.

Tommy Maddox and Matt Ryan followed with decisions to extend the lead to 9-0. At 149, Kaleb Burgess got UB's first bonus points with a 10-2 major decision over Jake Pail.

Michael Petite improved to 3-1 with a 7-3 decision over Luke Kemerer at 157. Giuseppe Hoose kept the Bulls rolling with a dominant win over Joey Arnold. He earned an 18-7 major decision.
Sam Mitchell and Eli Sherren finished off the win with decisions at 197 and 285, respectively.

After falling behind Bucknell, 6-3, the Bulls rattled off four straight wins, beginning with an exciting 4-2 sudden victory by Burgess over Kolby DePron at 149. Burgess trailed by two late in regulation, before earning a takedown in the closing seconds to force OT. It didn't take Burgess long to get the takedown and the sudden victory.

Petite (157), Noah Grover (165) and Jay Nivison (174) followed with decisions to put the Bulls ahead, 15-6.

After Hoose was upset at 184 to allow Bucknell to cut the lead to 15-9 with two matches left. Mitchell (197) and Greg Hodulick (285) slammed the door on a Bucknell comeback by each winning decisions.

"Today we wrestled well," head coach John Stutzman said. "Getting our first MAC win and beating a very good well-coached Bucknell team is a great way to finish the semester. Our team has wrestled a very tough schedule to date and this was a big weekend for our team."

The Bulls will next compete at the Midlands beginning Dec. 29.
