By Craig Kaper, Monroe County Wrestling Chairman There were Holiday Tournaments a-plenty for the Monroe County Wrestling squads as teams looked to welcome in the new year. Churchville Chili and part of the Attica/Batavia team took part in the Akron Tournament in Section VI. The Saints took home the 3rd place trophy and saw Cael Raines win the aggregate pin award while his brother Coy was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament after he captured the crown at 160 lbs. Cael won a title at 138 lbs and Adrew Jeffers (110 lbs), Andrew Frost (145 lbs.), Xander Tomaszewski (152 lbs.), Johnathan Cullen (189 lbs), Jaxxson Cody (215 lbs), and Gael Sanchez (285 lbs.) all placed for Churchville. Daniel Bialek medaled at 172 lbs for Attica/Batavia. Victor took part in the Mark Cody Duals at Binghamton High School. The Blue Devils captured 3rd place at the tournament and Angelo Attardi (118 lbs), Gabe D'Aiello (152 lbs), Sam Ricci (160 lbs) and Ty Rader (285 lbs) all went undefeated and were named to the All Tournament Team. Both Penfield and Pittsford took part in the Grand Island Duals. Pittsford claimed the crown going 5-0 on the day. Both Canandaigua and Webster Thomas took part in the Ken Haines Memorial tournament in Oswego. Thomas finished in an impressive 5th place while Canandaigua came in 11th in the 24 team field. Jonathan Schmitt of Thomas led the Monroe County schools with a 2nd place finish at 152 lbs. Other place finishers for Thomas were; Connor Guffey, Jacob Mendola, Anthony Cimino, Dom Blekot, Colin Mastin, Eric Mclean, and Owen Gruhn. Taking medals for Canandaigua were; Mason Depew and Branden Whitcomb. A large group of Monroe County teams entered into the Teike/Bernabi Tournament put on by host school Spencerport. Rush Henrietta cruised to a 2nd place finish to lead the MC Schools. At 102 lbs Jackson Harrison finished in 3rd for Webster Schroeder while Nathan Wagner of Brighton took 4th. At 110 lbs Ryan Cieslinksi of Spencerport took 2nd and Devon Weber of Greece was 3rd. At 118 lbs it was an all Monroe County final as Richard Wood of Brockport defeated Yousef Allen of Brighton, Joe Mollica of Greece was 3rd. Spencerport's Joseph Trieste finished in 4th place at 126 lbs. Ryan Schaubroeck placed 2nd for Webster Schroder at 132 lbs. There was another all MC final at 138 lbs., as Dino Battisti of Brockport defeated Jackson Koppers of Rush Henrietta. Christian Kuhn of RH led MC with a 2nd place finish at 145 lbs, while his teammate Ken Blowers also took 2nd at 152 lbs. Winning the 152 lb class was Brighton's Daniel Barraclough-Tan and teammate Max Morrison defeated Joe Caudle of Brockport to take the crown at 160 lbs. At 172 lbs.,the highest MC finishers were Tamar Jasper of Greece 3rd and Ronald Dietz of Eastridge finishing in 4th. Rush Henrietta closed out the medalists as Tramell Parsons won the 215 lb class and Jacob Sturgis finished in 4th at 285 lbs. For Gates Chili, Noah Leathersich finished in 4th place at 152 lbs. A few Monroe County teams took part in the state's oldest holiday tournament, The Windsor. Claiming weight class championships were Casper Stewart of Attica/Batavia and Brady Unger of Fairport. Stewart would capture his title by defeating state medalist Renso Montalvo out of Amsterdam 3-0 at 145 lbs. Unger continued his dominance this season with a 10-3 decision over his Tonawanda opponent. Nick Noto out of HFL would also make the finals to face a state finalist, Caden Bellis, from powerhouse Tioga. Noto would take 2nd place dropping a 5-1 decision at 138 lbs. At 126 lbs. Faiport's Philly Provenzano would also reach the finals. He faced another Tioga wrestler in Gianni Silvestri who is a returning state champion. Provenzano would test his opponent throughout the match but fell short, dropping a 6-4 decision. Additional place finishers for HFL were; Chris Noto, Waylan Winseman, Andrew Spaulding and Jazz Spaulding. Also placing for Fairport was Blaze Waters at 285 lbs., and Wyatt Kaufman for Attica/Batavia at 215 lbs. Victor will be hosting the Victor Ahonen Duals on January 7th starting at 9:00 a.m. This looks to be a loaded field with potential matchups that will be outstanding. Teams participating are Victor, Rush Henrietta, Corning, St. Francis, Canisteo Greenwood, Spencerport, Fairport, HFL, and Hilton. There will be 25 state ranked wrestlers on hand and 6 stated ranked teams. This should be a good one!!!!! Comments |
