St. John Fisher Wrestling Wins At Home Against Elmira

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University wrestling program hosted their first home match in almost 40 years on Saturday, welcoming Elmira College for a dual match. The Cardinals were able to come away with an impressive 40-9 win over the Soaring Eagles.

The Cardinals claimed victory in the 125, 133, 149, 165 and 174 weight class do to forfeits by Elmira. The competition started with a 141-weight class bout featuring Torin Bishop of Fisher. Bishop earned a win by pin-fall in 4:20 after wearing down his opponent.

In the 157-weight class, Joshua Maslyn was strong from beginning to end to capture a 17-6 major decision. Maslyn led 8-1 after the first period, 11-3 after the second and then used a late take down to go ahead 17-6. The Cardinals ended the competition dropping bouts in the 184 and 285-weight class.

Fisher also had three exhibition matches featuring Zachary Ash in the 141, Trevor Sheehan in the 157 and Jack Lestrange in the 184. All three were victorious in their contests, starting with Ash exhibiting his talent with an 18-4 major decision. Sheehan made quick work of his contest, recording a pinfall win in 0:33. Lestrange wrapped up the day with an 11-7 decision thanks to late points in the third period to give him some breathing room.

The Cardinals are back on the road next week as they travel to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Quad meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
