FAIRFAX, VA - The Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships concluded on Saturday and it was highlighted by a third place finish by UB's Sam Mitchell. It was the redshirt-junior's best ever finish at the event as he was one of three Bulls to find the podium.

Mitchell began the day with a dominant 9-3 victory over Cleveland State 's Anthony Perrine to advance to the consolation final. He needed overtime, but was able to defeat Edinboro's Cody Mulligan 4-2 to win the third-place medal.

Hoose started the day with a 3-1 sudden victory over Northern Illnois' Matt Zuber to advance on the backside. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury in the win and was forced to withdrawal from the tournament. He upped his overall record to 20-6 on the season and will look for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.

Michael Petite won his first two matches on Saturday. He defeated Clarion's Trevor Elfvin 8-6 to advance to the consolation semifinals. That's where he disposed of former teammate Marcus Robinson, the three-seed from Cleveland State, 9-7, to move on to the consolation final. Unfortunately, it was there that he lost to two-seed Peyten Keller of Ohio, 9-2, and had to settle for fourth place.

Petite had a shot at the national tournament by winning the true fourth match, but gave up a late takedown to Central Michigan's Corbyn Munson to lose 6-5. He will have to wait to see if he receives an at-large bid.

At 141, Jack Marlow went 0-2 on Saturday first losing to Anthony Glasl of George Mason, 10-4, and then lost in the seventh-place match, 11-5, to Lock Haven's Sean Logue.

Jay Nivison also lost both of his matches on the day at 174. He dropped a close bout to Michael Wilson of Rider, 3-2, in his fist match of the day. In the seventh-place match, the redshirt-sophomore dropped a major decision to Edinboro's Jared McGill.

After dropping his opening match to Ohio's Jordan Slivka, Marcus Petite wrestled in the seventh-place match. He rallied in the third period to tie his match with Clarion's Cameron Pine, before losing the match, 5-3, by sudden victory.

"I thought we had a number of chances this weekend," head coach John Stutzman said. "We lost a bunch of OT matches and matches by a single score. That has been the theme of the year. With that said, I think we had guys wrestle and compete their hearts out. We came here with a lot of new faces and they will learn from this experience and come back better."
