Elmira Men's Wrestling Opens Season on Wednesday at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA. - The Elmira College men's wrestling program opened its season on Wednesday night with a matchup against the East Stroudsburg University Warriors. The Soaring Eagles dropped a 56-0 decision against the Warriors as five weight classes were contested.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Competing in his first collegiate bout for the Soaring Eagles, Patrick Stauring '27 would match up against ESU's Jacob Remolina at 149 pounds. Remolina would be victorious in the bout with a pin just 55 seconds into the first period.

Hollis Berry '25 would deliver a spirited performance wrestling at 165 pounds for the Soaring Eagles as he would match up against ESU's Sergio Cespedes. Berry would battle back in the bout to knot the score 9-9 before Cespedes tallied a late escape point to secure the victory for ESU.

The 184-pound bout would feature Elmira's Bryan Stafford '26 and ESU's Luke Ciampa. Ciampa would come away victorious for the Warriors with a pin 38 seconds into the bout.

Caleb Tuttle '26 competed at 197 pounds for the Purple & Gold against ESU's Ajay Hiller. It would be Hiller recording the pin for the Warriors 36 seconds into the bout.

At heavyweight, Elmira's Darius Green '24 matched up against the Warriors' Layton Schmick. Approaching the six-minute mark of the bout, Schmick would complete the tech fall victory after taking a 17-1 lead over Green.

ESU would record forfeit victories in the match at 125, 133, 141, 157, and 174 pounds.

The Soaring Eagles return to the mat this weekend as Elmira travels to Ithaca to compete in the Ithaca College Invitational on Friday at 2:00 P.M. and Saturday at 9:00 A.M.
