The Ivy League's selfish decision to leave the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) fits into the longtime trend in the East towards all-sports conferences that sponsor wrestling.

Once upon a time, there were three college wrestling conferences in the east - the EIWA, the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) and the East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA). The membership of each changed over the years - 32 teams have been EIWA members -- but never were they congruent with the established all-sports conferences.
