WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - RIT junior Josh Harkless won the 285 lbs. division to lead the Tigers to a second-place finish at the Ned McGinley Invitational at Kings, Saturday.
Senior Lee Rubin finished second at 125 lb. and first year Jack Lamson placed third at 165 lb.
After a first-round bye, top-seeded Harkless defeated Derek Martin by pinfall eight seconds into his opening match. He defeated Rahmiere Bradley, 13-0 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the finals after Evan Anderson had to forfeit in the semifinals. Harkless downed Reid Garrison with a fall 6:31 in the championship bout.
Top-seeded Rubin went 4-1 winning all his matches by pinfall. He pinned Dan Hickey 1:13 into his opening match and Ryland Parker 34 seconds into his second bout. Rubin pinned Thomas Longo 44 seconds into the quarterfinal match and Thomas Fischer at 2:38 in the semifinals. Rubin lost 15-4 to Harrison Gordon in the finals.
Lamson defeated Tyler Tarallo with a 15-0 technical fall in his opening match and advanced to the quarterfinals with a default win over No. 7 Anthony Ostrander in the second round. Lamson defeated No. 2 Hassan Khan with a fall 20 seconds into the quarterfinal match before a 12-4 loss to No. 3 Chris Stathopoulos in the semifinals. Lamson came back to beat No. 1 Matt Lucas 5-3 to take third place.
Senior Josh Post went 5-1 to finish fifth at 141 lb., while sophomore Jacob Deysher went 5-1 to record a fifth-place finish at 125 lb.
Sophomores Tyler Balent (174 lb.), Jared Lee (149 lb.) Gabe Scalise (133 lb.) and Nick Smith (197 lb.) each finished sixth.
RIT returns to action on Sunday (Nov. 10) at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open beginning at 9:00 a.m.
