ArmDrag.com is not sure when Washington High School
was opened nor when they began their wrestling program. However, it is known
that its last school year was 1939-40.
Due to the war in Europe, during the 1940 summer recess the Rochester Board of
Education abruptly decided to convert Washington High School into a vocational
school. The conversion was a surprise to hundreds of Washington students and
teachers who found themselves scattered throughout the district at the beginning
